This past weekend I had one of my dreams come true. Ever since I really started to get into BYU football (a looong time), I've wanted to rush the field. Either I've never had the chance to or if the chance ever has come up before, I was sitting with my family and would basically be a little girl running on the field to get killed probably. However, on Saturday I was a student on the second row, and the opportunity was brewing perfectly. Before the game I even said,"I hope we get the rush the field today!" I never actually thought it would happen though, because the security is usually pretty tight and I'm sorry but I don't really want to get tased. I could hope though.
Well, the game went on and our seats were amazing! Second row right in the corner so I could judge depth, unlike an end zone. The team came out in the beautiful throwback royal blue uniforms and I knew it was going to be awesome.
There was only one Utah fan right next to us, and he was really obnoxious. Not just because of who he was, but because he knew nothing about football and acted like he was the pro, not to mention name-dropped Utah players every chance. Yes, it's cool you can correct the announcer when he says the kick returners name wrong. Get over yourself.
Everyone knows how the game went, it was BYU's game up until the last quarter or so when the Utes came back and tied it 20-20, forcing OT. Utah got the ball first and scored a field goal, followed by the BYU drive ending with the AMAZING catch by Andrew George off a great pass from Max Hall, scoring the game-winning TD.
At first it didn't even hit me, I just started screaming my head off. Then I noticed that a bunch of people behind me started running up and jumping over the barrier onto the field. Without giving it much thought, I grabbed my bag and did the same. I do remember that I was really scared I was going to eat the grass when I landed. Luckily though, I landed on my feet. Me and Michelle then ran as fast as we could to the opposite end zone where the players were all together celebrating and fans quickly gathered around them. It was pretty tight to say the least; I could barely move. The whole mass of people it seemed moved as one from side to side, and there was plenty of pushing and shoving going on. I know if I would have ever lost my balance I would have been trampled to death, no question. We also were shoved in to Matt Bauman for a minute and couldn't move..ha..and Andrew George was lifted up by fans and came very close to crowd surfing right next to us. We weren't really confident in our ability to keep a 250-pound tight end up in the air, so we tried our best to avoid it. Shocking, I know. After all of that, the seniors were honored and we stayed on the field a litle bit more just to soak it all up. Dream accomplished. (And I wouldn't mind getting to do it again!)
